Cacao, Sound and Art Therapy by the Lake

Wednesday, August 14th
Onteora Lake, Woodstock NY
5.30-7.30pm

Join Caro, Ana and Orieta (visiting from Peru)
on a journey of sound healing and plant connection with ceremonial cacao and nature art therapy

We will gather outdoors to honor and learn from the ancient tradition of cacao ceremonies, learn about the Mayan calendar and the nahual of the day, and explore the transformative power of this beloved plant.

Through guided meditation, we will connect to the spirit of Cacao, facilitating deeper inner connection and spiritual insight. Commune with the spirit of cacao and the vibrational force of a sound journey we will start building a relationship with this wise ally or deepen our existing connection while connecting deeper to our inner worlds and heart medicine.

We will be gathering outdoors at Onteora Lake. Orieta Chrem is visiting us from Peru, and we are so happy to share this space to honor some of our favorite allies: nature, sound, plants, people, and intuition.

YOUR HOSTS :

CARO AREVALO & ORIETA CHREM

Caro is a Peruvian visual artist based in Woodstock, NY.
Her artwork explores the plant and fungi kingdoms as seen with our naked eyes and through the microscopes.

From her Amazonian heritage, she embraces the importance of rituals and ancestral wisdom, of embracing our unity with nature in our daily lives. Her medicine path has taken Caro to study our connections with plant kin, meditation and sound as tools of remembrance.

Caro studies under Nana Marina Cruz from the Tz’utujil community from Guatemala, with Florencia Fridman, Cacao Laboratory, Tibet House and others. Caro believes in the power of building non-human relationships and working in honor, reciprocity and respect with the communities that teach us the ways of remembrance.

Her calling is to build space for our remembrance and connection to our own natural rhythms, connection to our hearts and nature with art, plant spirits and meditation as allies.

Orieta Chrem is a sound healer, a sound engineer, a music producer/DJ, and an architect. She studied architecture at PUCP (Pontifical Catholic University of Peru) and later moved to Barcelona, Spain, to study sound engineering at SAE Institute. It was there that she began researching the effects of sound on the human body and how frequencies generate different geometric patterns. Her thesis was on "Cymatics," the science that studies how sound affects and transforms matter.

In 2014, she returned to Lima and created "Qmulus Sound," a sound studio where she currently works on various sound design and music projects, and where she also conducts sound healing sessions.

For several years, she researched the effects of sound on the human body and how it could heal mental, physical, and energetic patterns in a subtle and non-invasive way. After extensive personal research, she decided to take a "Biosonics" course to learn more about quartz bowls. She also took a course in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on gongs and sound therapy, "The Path of the Gong," with master Jap Prem Singh. She then began experimenting with tuning forks and took the "Biofield Tuning" course with Eileen Day McKusick, a sound therapy that uses tuning forks to detect and correct distortions and static (unprocessed traumas or emotions) in the patient's electromagnetic field.

Currently, the sessions she conducts are a combination of all these learnings, creating her own alchemy and sharing a unique and immersive sonic experience, generating mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Ana Cabrera is a Peruvian artist and Licensed Art Psychotherapist based in New York City since 2018. She has a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a Master of Professional Studies in Art Therapy and Creativity Development.
